Across six decades, Cora Cohen (1943–2023) built one of the most consequential bodies of work in postwar American abstraction through paintings, drawings, altered X-rays and
photographs. A painter’s painter, she received fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Guggenheim Foundation; was recognized by the American Academy of the Arts and Sciences; and inducted into National Academy of Design.
The Cora Cohen Trust exists to preserve and steward the work of Cora Cohen and to ensure that her contribution to the long history of American abstraction is recognized, exhibited, collected, and written about in proportion to its seriousness. Led by Jeffrey M. Jones and Sam Jablon, The Trust supports scholarship, exhibitions, and research; maintains the Cora Cohen archive; and is developing a publicly accessible digital resource on her work. A permanent website, including the digital archive, will launch later this year.
