Cora Cohen (1943–2023) was born in Manhattan and lived and worked in New York, NY. She studied at Bennington College (B.A. 1964, M.A. 1972)
Cohen’s work has been reviewed and written about in The New York Times, The Brooklyn Rail, Art in America, ARTnews, Flash Art, The New Yorker, Time Out New York, New York Magazine, and Artnet Magazine, among other publications.
Her work is held in collections including the Swedish State Arts Council, Stockholm; the Ulla and Heiner Pietzsch Collection, Berlin; the Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro; the William and Uytendale Scott Memorial Study Collection of Works by Women at Bryn Mawr College; Yale University, New Haven; and the Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase.
Cohen received a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in 2013. Her honors also include grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts (1987), New York Foundation for the Arts (1989), Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation (1990, 2006), and Pollock-Krasner Foundation (1998). She was awarded residencies at Yaddo (1982), the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation Space Program (2008–09), and the Edward F. Albee Foundation (2009).
